Frequently Asked Questions

Hey letterfriend, how can I help?

You have questions, and I have answers (hopefully) 😉 Check below for the answers to some of my most frequently asked Q’s.

General Questions

  1. I have a full 50 page supplies guide that has all of my supplies recommendations (including direct links to purchase them all!) right here.

  2. Great question! I love to connect with my calligra-friends:

  3. I post new videos on my YouTube channel twice a week (on Tuesday and Friday). Make sure to subscribe to my channel to get alerts about the next video!

  4. Unfortunately, I am not able to do critiques via email or DM (direct messages) due to the volume of enrolled students and messages I receive daily.

A great way to get feedback and critique is to post in either my free Facebook community, The Happy Ever Crafters, or the private communities that come with my paid products.

  5. You can sign up for a weekly newsletter & dad joke right here.

Show Me Your Drills Questions

  1. Show Me Your Drills is a completely free 4-week basic strokes calligraphy course taught by yours truly. 🙂 During our 4 weeks together, you’ll learn the foundations of calligraphy, so you can move on to learning how to write letters and eventually words!

You can learn more about Show Me Your Drills and sign up for the next semester right here.

  2. Yes! Show Me Your Drills is completely free. If you are looking to learn the basic building blocks of calligraphy, you can join me for 4 weeks of beginner instructions.

  3. The entire course is accessible through an online portal that you can access via desktop, tablet, or mobile device.

At the start of the challenge, I’ll share the supplies you need to get started with the calligraphy basics. Each day, I’ll post a new “basic stroke” for you to learn and practice. You can complete the work on your own time at your own pace.

If you’d like feedback, you can post your work in the comments, our private Facebook group, or on Instagram (this is optional).

  4. Once the 4-week drills challenge ends, there will be more advanced workbooks/courses available for purchase:

    • Minuscule (lowercase) letters
    • Majuscule (uppercase) letters
    • Connections
    • Numbers & Symbols
    • Bouncing & Stylizing
    • Flourishing

These advanced tutorials are 100% optional and you are not required to purchase them.

We will work through these advanced courses together as a group for anyone who purchases them. If you choose to complete all of the advanced courses, the semester will last about six months total.

  5. Inside the Show Me Your Drills course, you’ll find a guide with the exact materials you need.

The major tools are a flexible tip pen (pointed pen, brush pen) and paper (Rhodia, tracing paper, etc.). If you choose digital lettering, you will need an iPad that works with Procreate and the Apple Pencil.

  6. Nope! Social media is completely optional. Posting in the Facebook groups or on Instagram is an opportunity to share your work and to receive feedback from others, but you’re also able to post to the comments inside the learning portal.

  7. Yes! You’ll need to enter your name and email here so that you’re enrolled in the most recent semester. Otherwise, you won’t get the current semester’s emails!

  8. You can sign up here to join the waitlist for the next semester.

While you wait, there are many tutorials and resources on my YouTube channel or you can enrol in my Faux Calligraphy Crash Course.

Product Questions

  1. You can find my calligraphy workbooks, watercolour workbooks, courses and more right here.

  2. My courses, calligraphy workbooks, and watercolour workbooks are digital— so you purchase it and get an instant download that you can print and work on right away! There is no shipping required.

My brush pens and printed calligraphy workbook (limited edition items that are not always available) are physical items that will be shipped within Canada and the U.S.

  3. Indefinitely! You will never lose access to workbooks or courses that you’ve purchased.

  4. There are three formats of this workbook available, sold separately: one for small pens, one for big pens, and one for iPads.

The only difference is the size of the traceable sections— slightly smaller for pens with small tips, and slightly larger for pens with big tips. You’ll want to purchase the workbook that fits the pen size you’ll be using.

    Examples of “small” pens:

    • Tombow Fudenosuke
    • Pentel Fude Touch

    Examples of “big” pens:

    • Tombow Dual Tips
    • Koi Coloring Brushes
    • Pentel Aquash

If you want to learn more about the difference between small pens and big pens, read this!

  5. It totally depends on personal preference. Small pens are generally easier for beginners, but lots of people prefer the big pens! I suggest trying both out to do some drills, first, and see which one you prefer.

If you want to learn more about the difference between small pens and big pens, read this!

  6. You bet! Karin of @ipadlettering has created iPad versions of all of my workbooks. It’ll always be listed as an option on the product page!

Technical Questions

  1. All of your workbooks and courses are hosted by a company named Teachable. You can find all of your purchases inside your Teachable account: https://thehappyevercrafter.teachable.com/

If you have purchased a workbook or course and do not see it inside your Teachable account, or have not received an email about creating a Teachable account, please:

    • Wait an hour or two, sometimes there is a delay between purchase and access.
    • Check your spam and promotions folders.
    • Search for “thehappyevercrafter” in your inbox search bar.

If you are still having trouble, please contact hello@thehappyevercrafter.com.

  2. IF YOU’VE TAKEN ANY OF MY COURSES BEFORE:

    1. Go here and click “log in” in the top right corner
    2. Enter your email address & password (**IMPORTANT: make sure you’re logging in with the same email address & password as you’ve used in the past. If you forgot the password, hit the “forgot password” button)
    3. Once you’ve logged in, you should be able to see the courses you’re enrolled in. Click on the name of the course you’re looking for!

IF YOU’VE USED TEACHABLE BEFORE (FOR ANOTHER INSTRUCTOR’S COURSE), BUT NONE BY THE HAPPY EVER CRAFTER:

    1. Go here and click “log in” in the top right corner
    2. scroll to the bottom right hand corner of the form, and hit “Log In with MyTeachable”.
    3. enter your email address & password (**IMPORTANT: make sure you’re logging in with the same email address & password as you’ve used in the past. If you forgot the password, hit the “forgot password” button)
    4. Once you’ve logged in, you should be able to see all the courses you’re enrolled in. Click on the name of the course you’re looking for!

IF YOU’VE NEVER USED TEACHABLE BEFORE:

    2. fill in your email address (**IMPORTANT: this must be the same email address you used to sign up for/purchase the course) and choose a password
    3. check off the checkboxes, and hit “sign up”
    4. Once you’ve logged in, you should be able to see the courses you’re enrolled in. Click on the name of the course you’re looking for.

    TROUBLESHOOTING:

    • If you get a “Email is already in use. Please sign into your account” message, you’re trying to sign up but you already have an account. Instead, scroll down and hit the “log in with school account” or “log in to MyTeachable” button, and log in there.
    • If you get a “invalid email or password” message, you’re probably logging into MyTeachable instead of your “school account” (I know, this is confusing!). Scroll down and hit “Log in with a School Account”, and log in there.
    • If you get an “invalid password” message, you can hit the “Forgot Password” button and reset it.
    • If all else fails, email hello@thehappyevercrafter.com and I can help you. For example, if you purchased your workbook with a different email address than the email address you use on Teachable, I’ll need to switch your enrollment on Teachable and delete the duplicate account!
  3. When I print my workbooks for myself, the printing company I use prints them on 11×17 size paper, double-sided, and then does what’s called a “saddle-stitch” down the middle!

If you take the PDF docs to any printer, they should be able to print them like mine. Remember to bring your usage license (at the front of the workbook!) so they know it’s OK for you to print one single copy for your personal use.

  4. Yes – you can print the workbooks as many times as you want for YOUR own personal use. You cannot print the workbooks for other people.
