How to Draw a Peony: Step-by-Step Tutorial

Today, I’m breaking how I draw the peonies you may have seen on my signs and in my bullet journal. Plus, I’m sharing alllllll the tricks I use to make them look more natural.

For wedding signage, I love adding florals to my work and I typically focus on drawing a big open peony and a smaller closed bud. I’m also including a FREE cheat sheet below that walks you through this process step-by-step!

During the tutorial, you’ll learn:

✔️How to draw open peonies and little peony buds
✔️An easy tip for drawing petals that don’t look too perfect
✔️How to embellish your peony to make it look more natural
✔️ Where to add contrast to make your flower pop
✔️AND SO MUCH MORE!

  1. Thank you for this beautiful tutorial! I signed up for the show me your florals, but haven’t had time to take it (and am now doing drills). This is amazing and so easy to follow along, thank you so much!

    1. A Terrific tutorial Becca. I just love Peonies and so does my daughter, which I never knew until recently. Thankyou so much, sooo easy to understand. Cant wait for more floral tutorials.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. Since I’m across the “little pond” it’s difficult to come to your workshops and this is a wonderful inspiration!

  3. Becca,
I have downloaded your free Florals Doodle Workbook, however it does not have a peony in it. I looked and looked and could not find any cheat sheet for drawing a Peony. Did I miss it or did I misunderstand? Thanks for your assistance. Sorry to have to email.
